Union Field Trip to the National Museum of Mexican Art

November 18, 2023 @ 11:00 am3:00 pm

RSVP here!

When: Saturday, November 18th, 11AM-1PM

Where: National Museum of Mexican Art (Google Maps link)

It’s a union field trip! We will meet at the National Museum of Mexican Art (free admission!) at 11 a.m. to see the Carlos Cortéz 100 AÑOS exhibit, then get lunch at Taqueria El Mezquite (1 p.m.) to talk about the exhibit, connections to today’s working class struggles, and what’s going on in our unions.

If you don’t know Carlos Cortéz, here’s a bit of info from the museum’s website: This centennial exhibition celebrates the legacy of Carlos Cortéz Koyokuikatl (1923-2005), one of Chicago’s most important social justice artists working in the 20th century. Often a poet, often a printmaker, but always an activist, Cortéz’s life’s work uplifted the working class, marginalized communities, and social struggles by depicting scenes of labor disputes, protests, and ignored historical events and individuals.

If you’re interested, but unable to attend on this date, please let us know! If there is enough interest, we can plan a second visit for a later date.

This meetup is open to all members of AFSCME Locals 505, 654, 1215, 1669, 2912, and 2946.
